Refrigerator
Maintenance
You should
check your door seals about once a month. The seal helps keep in the cold and
the warmth out. This will ensure that your fridge is running effectively and
does not have to work too hard to keep your food at the right temperature. Look
for any cracks or breaks in the seal that could result in a leak. If you find
one, you can fix the seal yourself or call for repair if you do not know how.
The coils in
your fridge need to be kept clean at all times. You can clean them about two or
three times a year to keep them maintained. If you do not clean them, they can
get dirty and your fridge will not work as well as it could. You can find these
condenser coils in the back of the fridge if you pull it away from the wall.
Some refrigerators may have the coils in the front as well. You can look up
where the coils are, depending on what model of refrigerator you have. You
should unplug the fridge to cut off the power and use the hose of a vacuum to
clean the coils off. Chances are, they have accumulated dust and dirt.
You should
always check the temperature inside your fridge—both the temperature it is set
to and the temperature that it is at. This temperature knob and reading is
usually at the back of the inside of the fridge, near the top shelf. It should
be set to between 37 and 40 degrees, or to the recommended temperature on the
dial in the fridge. Keep in mind that the temperature will fluctuate if you
have had the door open a while or if there is a different amount of food in it.
However, if there are large fluctuations in the temperature or it is regularly
below the temperature it is set to, you may want to call for appliance repair in Sterling Heights.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. I didn't know it should be checked that often. Anyway, I saw ours has like a cardboard wall at the back so I can't really see any metal thing? I know it's weird, probably an old model. Good thing I didn't have to do all the back-fridge cleaning then! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tips Nova! To be honest we do not do any of these that you've mentioned. We "inherited" the fridge from the previous owner of the house we're living now and so far it's been working well. But all your tips do make sense and I'm going to bring it up to my hubby.
ReplyDeleteI agree that appliances should always be kept free from dust and grime. Sometimes, dirt can cause an appliance to malfunction and break down. I regularly clean the motor of the fans in the house, the filters of the airconditioner and the back of the refrigerator. As expensive as it is to have them repaired, I would rather spend a few precious hours cleaning than paying a huge chunk of my salary to the repairman.
ReplyDeleteOur refrigerator is almost done, we have to get another kitchen appliances soon. Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteThis is an eye-opener, I never inspected our fridge for tnese, but I realized how important it may seem. Will definitely take note of these and apply this after each clean up.
ReplyDeleteHaaa! I didn't know that it's needed to check the temperature of the fridge regularly. Thanks for sharing about this. Will keep them in mind.
