Camiguin Retreat

================================
August 31, 2005 10:00 PM @ Notre Dame Dadiangas College Marist Gate. We departed for our trip to Camiguin Island. Everyone is very excited to see and be on the place, men i was on the pink van and with me are other 13 passengers. On our way to the island, we have lots of funny things share and eventually we even revealed the loveteam of our two co-employee [
we are just teasing them] We do have a good time with them...laughter from GenSan unto Cagayan. The trip was very tireful, imagine for almost 10 hours on the road.."what an experience!"

THE ISLAND ITSELF
Lying in the Bohol Sea 10 kilometer north of Misamis Oriental. Camiguin is a pear-shaped volcanic island with seven volcanoes dominating the rugged, hilly terrain. The three highest volcanoes in the province are Mt. Tempoing [1,580m], Mt. Mambajao [1,420m], and the
still-active Mr. Hibok-Hibok [1,250m].

Born of Fire
CAMIGUIN ISLAND is said to be "Born of Fire". It has seven volcanoes unmatched anywhere else in Southeast Asia. Volcanic eruptions and land movements have created this spectacular island full of natural wonders and historical riches.

SCHEDULE FOR OUR 4 DAYS TRIP TO CAMIGUIN ISLAND

OUR TRIP TO WHITE ISLAND
Our first trip was at the white island, to get into that island is to travel through "bangka" little motor boat. The island is just a very very small with no trees, but all plain white sand, at the middle of the sea.

" Mga torista ku no! "

" Mercy and ME"

BONBON WALKWAY & STATIONS OF THE CROSS
On the side of the Hibok Hibok volcano in BonBon the 12 stations of Jesus Christ can be found. This is popular place during Holy Week. Once you reach the top, you have a beautiful view and you can see the Sunken Cementery under the sea.

" we are not on the top of Mr. Hibok Hibok"

" Maski kapoy na sige smile pa rin"

" Perting procession mga kapatid..."
" On the top of the mountain...and overlooking place"

KATIBAWASAN FALLS
Katibawasan falls are 5 kms. southeast of Mambajao at the foot of Mr. Timpoong. The falls measure 250 ft. high, and cascade 50 m into an icy pool surrounded by orchids, wild ferns, and boulders...with dagdag "not like ours" hahahahhahaha
**************
" Where live those things...not like ours people...Scary!!!"
" Pretty girls of the falls...hahaha"

ARDENT HOT SPRING
In the heart of the island bubble the flowing mineral pools of Ardent Hot Springs. It has a four-tiered pool of varying depths and warmth, with the hottest and shallowest on top. The crystal clear water in the beautifully designed 25x40m natural stone swimming pool has a temperature of 38-40C. Mists rise from the heated waters running down from the vents of Hibok-Hibok Volcano. Because of the hot temperature of its pools, the suggested length of bathing should not be more than 20 minutes. Dipping in its hot water is a best treatment for any therapeutic ailment since it contains sulphur, which is said to be a medicinal element that may cure some illnesses.

" Nice pose everyone"

MANTIGUE ISLAND

CROSS MARKER AND SUNKEN CEMENTERY
Lying 20 feet underwater in Barrio Bonbon, Catarman is the sunken cementery, the remains of a volcani eruption. Years ago, gravestones were visible during low tide. Coral encrusted tombstones can still be explored by snorkellers and scuba divers. A huge cross was installed in 1982 by the provincial government to mark the community cementery which sunk during the Mt. Vulcan Daan's 1871 volcanic eruption. A fluvial procession, usually organized by the people of Barangay Bonbon, is held to honor the sunken graves of their ancestors on the month of November. Islanders bring flowers and candles as an offering to those who once were buried there.

" Captured from the near place..."

OLD CATARMAN CHURCH RUINS
Standing as witnesses to the powe of nature, the adobe walls ofthe church, belfry and convent, are all that remains of the Spanish church destroyed by the Vulcan Daan eruption in 1871. This wiped out the town of Catarman established as a Spanish settlement in 1697. During the eruption, when Mt. Vulcan gave out its fiercest and most violent outbreak, hundreds of houses and the church crumbled into pieces when the ground rolled and broke into deep crevices. Hundreds of people lost their lives.

STO NIÑO COLD SPRING
Located in Catarman, the Sto. Niño cold Spring has a pool measuring 25 meters by 40 meters and 2 meters deep. The cold spring water sprouts from the sandy tottom.

The Journey stops, and we rested in the evening, for the preparation of our long day trip back to GenSan. The experience we have down on our travel, and back to GenSan is safe and can't be bought with money...just love the nature and the power of what our Creator have...
