Want to make a lantern

After reading this hydrocodone withdrawal which is a pain killer that mostly use by people in United States. I came to think of making a lantern and let it fly in the sky during Christmas. Although I haven't started it I want to now that I have a son. I want to start this tradition as what I will call this. Every Christmas Eve I will lit a lantern and just like what at the movie Tangled do they let it fly. But the question is, how will I do that if I don't have my own lantern. I want to make sure that it is possible to do such thing before the Christmas Eve comes. I have weeks to think and research and I do hope that I will able to do it.
