What to get for a better source of light

Utility companies across the United States are poised to raise rates significantly in 2013 and 2014. The exact reason why rates are going up so high isn't very clear, but what is clear is that families are going to need to cut back on their energy use if they don't want to see a significant increase in their electricity bill. Thankfully, there are a lot of things homeowners can do to significantly cut down on their use of electricity. Hand washing dishes, only doing full loads of laundry and unplugging items when you're away can all save a good amount of money in the long run. More permanent changes like buying more efficient appliances may cost more upfront, but they will pay for themselves over time. Lights aren't always the first thing people think of when it comes to saving energy, but they represent an enormous opportunity to cut back. First, lights should never be on unless there is someone in the room. Second, the types of lights you use have an effect on energy consumption. Compact fluorescent lamps from GenesisLamp.com use significantly less energy than their incandescent counterparts. They use a clever chemical reaction with electricity to make phosphor glow of the bulb. CFLS aren't the only option. LEDs are becoming more and more popular everyday for businesses and homeowners looking for the latest efficient light technology.

  1. I like fluorescent light, but my husband does not like the 'whiteness' it brings. I still use them in some parts of the house though.

  7. We use energy saving light bulbs all throughout the house. Since using them I've noticed our electric bill has gone down. Also we use mostly natural light during the daytime which also helps.

  9. LEDS are great electricity savers and they produce bright lights too. We only use them in our kitchen but all yellow bulbs in most parts of our house.
