Heat and Ultrasonic Welding

If you are considering ultrasonic welding or traditional welding and trying to decide what option to use, it is important to really understand everything that you can about both sides. For example, you need to read more on ultrasonic welding to understand what materials can be used during the process and what ones require you to use a more traditional setup; you can then compare this to the projects that you have coming up, and your choice may be very clear.

One thing to think about, that many people overlook, is that ultrasonic welding is not necessarily "cold" welding. It gets this reputation because an open flame is not used, as would be used with a standard welding torch. Instead of a flame, the ultrasonic vibrations move the materials very quickly, so quickly that it is impossible to see the full extent with the naked eye, and this allows for two pieces - often, pieces that are made out of a soft material like plastic - to be adhered to one another.

However, the incredible rate of vibration is the result of a lot of energy being put into the materials. Some of this energy is expelled as movement, but not all of it. A lot is also spelled as heat. There is a terrific amount of friction. The pieces can get very hot to the touch, even though there is no flame. For this reason, it is important to have all of the right heat-related safety equipment.

  1. Believe it or not, when I was a young girl, I helped my Lolo put pieces of metal and steel together using the welding. I have used it a lot of times before and have also got some burns from it. We had our small backyard business then and we were not equipped with the right safety gears... :)

  3. I knew of a woman who trained on this tech voc. She graduated on top of her class because she has this pulse to join metals flawlessly well. Then she got hired to work in Japan, but came home soon after the contract ends - because her work requires her to weld metals on the wall of 121st story building. Though there's safety gear she can't take the scene below. :) Nice article sis.

  7. I've always been fascinated with the light show emitted from a welding machine. As a young girl, I used to like watching it whenever I got near a welding shop but I was always told to stay away from it.

  8. Welding is something that I always love to watch. I dunno why but after watching it on television on how intricate the work is, All I could do was to be in awe with their work. But of course, it is important to be safe while welding as it can be also dangerous. Therefore, safety precaution is a must. :)

  10. Only I know that this job has high risk. I'm sure those who work there get a lot of training for their safety.

  11. Safety measures and gears must be observed and have while engaging in welding jobs because of the heat, fumes. I used to watch out drivers weld metal stuff on our jeepneys back in the days when we used to have fleet of transportation vehicles. The work was round the clock and I could smell the almost sulphuric smell of the fumes. It was a tough job.

  12. I used to work in a machine shop and witness my co-workers did the welding. It is not an easy job and a little scary too. They wear safety accessories though especially for their eyes.

  14. It's only now that I learned about ultrasonic welding. My dad used to be a welder and he used flame torch to weld metals together.
