5 Ways to Organize Your Entryway

While you may not stop to think about it when coming and going from your home, the foyer can be much more functional than it is given credit for. As a natural place to set coats, keys, important pieces of mail, the entryway may be one of the most under-utilized places in the house. Don’t waste that entryway space. Here are five ways to turn your foyer into an organized and welcoming area.

1. Cut Out Clutter

Whether you’re bringing in the daily mail, newspaper, or just need a place to set your keys, it’s easy to accumulate clutter in the entrance of your home. To prevent the mess, bring in entryway furniture like end tables or pedestals as a place to organize your important belongings. A small table with drawers is a great place to set mail or store smaller items like keys, sunglasses, or dog leashes for example.

2. Add Places for Outerwear

In the cooler months, one of the best things you can do to stay organized adds storage space for outerwear at the entrance to your house. Not only is it welcomes to guests, any weather that followed them inside will stay in your entryway as opposed to your living room floors. Try adding a coat rack where you and guests can leave the snow-riddled jackets. Place an umbrella holder nearby to keep moisture off the floor. You can also add an inviting rug that doubles as place for you and guests to leave muddy shoes or boots.

3. Get Comfortable

When removing outerwear, there’s no need for you or guests to be uncomfortable in the process. Use an entryway bench to give yourself the ability to sit down while you take off your shoes and set your umbrella down. Not only is it practical for you and guests, it also looks extremely inviting which is an important quality for any foyer.

4. Add Lighting

No matter the time of the year, sometimes you’ll find yourself leaving the house before the sun comes up or returning home well after the sundown. In any case, there’s no need to be fumbling around in the dark as you leave or enter your house. Adding lighting in the foyer keeps the space functional and makes it easier for you and guests to navigate. There’s no need to overhaul your whole electrical system if you don’t have a light switch near your front door; just add a lamp to your existing entryway table for the same feature.

5. Use Mirrors

Not only do mirrors add depth and visual interest to a room, in foyers they give you one last chance to check your appearance before you head out the door. Place a mirror in your entryway so you can leave the house confidently.

I don't think we have a "foyer" so to speak. LOL! I keep all the other parts of our house clean and tidy though. It's a pain for me to see some clutter.

We always find a way to have a spacious entryway but the clutter seems to love their position and the only time they get cleaned up.. is during special occasions where we have to get them stranded somewhere.. :D
