How to clean a bamboo flooring

If you have bamboo flooring, it is very important that you know how to clean it effectively. A clean floor makes your home look better and it provides a healthy environment in which you and your family can live. Depending on the type of mess that have made, different cleaning methods may be needed. One of the most important things that you should know is that mopping the floor is not a good idea. You may not see any damage right away, but bamboo floors can damage just like oak wood floors. Water causes rot and decay. A mop will force water down into all of the cracks so that rot could spread even if you dry off the top of the floor. You are much better off to use a cleaning solution that was specifically designed for a wood floor. You can find spray bottles of these solutions at your local hardware store. These chemicals are strong enough to pick dirt and grease off the floor, but they are not so strong that they will tear up the finish or damage the wood itself. You can then spot clean the portion with this chemical and a rag. Before spot cleaning, making sure that you swiped up everything you can with a broom. If you rub dirt against the floor with the rag, you can scratch the finish, which makes it look worse and can also detract from the life of the flooring. Sweep quickly and then spot clean.

  1. Great ideas because we always use a mop but the floor has been rotting and tearing up. We put down new flooring but even that is coming up in the bathroom because of the water that's on the floor.

I didn't realize to use a wood cleaner instead. Thanks for the tips.

  2. I do not have wood flooring but this is very good advice for those who do!! You certainly don't want to have to pull up rotted flooring and go to the expense of putting down a new floor!!

I never realized that bamboo flooring would require special care. I should have but didn't. Thank you, we are replacing some of our flooring and were considering bamboo, this helps with that decision.
