It is quite clear that smiling is a wonderful thing, but most people take it for granted. Many people don't see the ability to smile as a big deal, probably because it is so easy. The reality, however, is that there are quite a number of people who can't smile because they are embarrassed about what lies beneath. These are people with crooked or crowded teeth, protruding jaws, impacted teeth among a host of other related problems.

The good news is that all such deformities can be corrected by an orthodontist. Orthodontists are specialists who are specifically trained to deal with problems that affect the jaw and teeth in general. Many people who have some of these deformities are not very confident; some even think of themselves as being ugly. Children in particular may have a hard time making friends and this, of course, could have a very negative impact on their social lives both in the present and in their adult lives. Adults who are affected may also prefer to keep to themselves because they would rather not have to deal with the stares (real and imagined). This will translate to a very lonely life and probably even depression.

Most orthodontic problems do not just affect a person's looks; they can also cause health problems. Crooked and crowded teeth, for example, are usually quite difficult to clean. Due to this, food particles may accumulate in the mouth hence creating the perfect environment for the growth of bacteria. Over time, this is likely to cause all manner of dental problems a good example being tooth decay.

Certain orthodontic problems can also cause chronic jaw, head, and neck pain hence making life very uncomfortable for the person affected. People with protruding jaws and/or crooked teeth tend to have difficulty chewing food correctly. All these are problems that a qualified orthodontist upper west side can handle. Today, there are so many appliances that can be used to correct orthodontic deformities including the all-famous braces. Now there are many people who may not be too comfortable about walking around with metallic installations in their mouths. If you are one such person, then there is no need to worry because available as well are the so-called invisible braces which are designed to blend with the teeth. One can, therefore, a smile very broadly without worrying about what lies beneath.

Orthodontic treatment is all about restoring confidence by creating beautiful and healthy smiles. In addition, correcting some of these deformities early on will significantly reduce the chances of having to undergo painful dental procedures like root canals in the future.
