Three Vital Home Security Ideas for New Moms

Your mother always said, “safety first,” and even though it annoyed you as a child, you understand its meaning and importance now more than ever as a new mom does. While you may have learned how to keep yourself safe when you are at home or away from home, but now it’s time to adapt to protect the home of your new baby.

New moms should take extra precautions to keep their home safe, as nothing is more important than the safety of a newborn. Here are some additional tips for new moms looking to extend their security measures for their growing family.

Invest in a home security alarm system
Although the task of finding and installing a home security system may seem daunting, in addition to all the new tasks you have to address, there are trusted companies that make this process easy for you and your little one to handle. Consider a company like Phoenix ADT Security to protect your home, both when you’re there and when you’re away.

There are varieties of alarm system options that will stay within your family’s budget while still offering the dependable service you need. Home security systems can be affordable and installations can be easy to fit into your schedule. More importantly, the thought of knowing that your home is constantly monitored will help any parent put their mind at ease.

Double-check your home
This may sound tedious when you are rushing out the door with your little one, but taking an extra second to make sure that all doors and windows are locked and blinds are drawn before you leave will eliminate any easy entrance for an intruder. These are easy steps for you to take, but they make breaking in much harder for any intruder.

Also, double check that you have a spare set of keys safely hidden outside your home or with a trusted neighbor before you leave, just in case of an emergency. There is nothing worse to add to the stress of a crying baby who just needs to be at home in bed than being locked outside.

Think before you post
It seems like a far stretch, but criminals can follow your social media accounts to learn your schedule, so they know when you are most vulnerable. Although it may seem like a secure form of contact with your friends, more people can see social media than you may realize and should always be used with caution.

It is a good home security tip to keep your family safe by refraining to post you schedule, travel plans, or even location on social media to keep the word from spreading. It’s tempting to post about your family outing, but try to refrain from sharing too much with unknown users.

Utilize your neighborhood
A lot of communities have had great success with neighborhood watch programs. Getting everyone in your community to volunteer for a few hours a week can make a huge difference in the crime rates of your neighborhood. Some community watch groups also raise money for equipment, like floodlights, to make the area more secure for everyone who lives there.

  1. I Love these tips thank you. I never check in with social media that I am not home or not going to be home unless there is an adult at the house so I know its safe. If we are all out of the house I don't I figure my stuff is worth more then letting others know.

  2. All great tips. I don't subscribe to the avoid social media adage though - I have insurance and everything can be replaced. Connections with friends and family is more important!
